- Mount Rushmore National Memorial is found in the Black Hills in Keystone, South Dakota.
- The construction took 14 years, from 1927 to 1941.
- Sculptor Gutzon Borglum created the sculpture's design and oversaw the project's execution from 1927 to 1941 with the help of his son Lincoln.
- The sculpture features the 18m heads of four presidents, chosen to represent important US historical events:
- George Washington, First President of the United States, the first face from the left, represents the birth of the United States.
- Thomas Jefferson, Third President of the United States, was chosen to represent the growth of the United States and he is the second face in from the left hand side.
- Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States, represents the development of the United States and his face can be found third in from the left.
- Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States, represent the preservation of the United States and his face is furthest to the right on Mount Rushmore.
- George Washington, First President of the United States, the first face from the left, represents the birth of the United States.
